France, EU Country With The Most Cryptocurrencies
With nearly four million cryptocurrency holders, France is ahead of Germany and Spain. In two years, 1.8 million additional investors have decided to invest in the sector in France.
Despite the crisis of confidence that the cryptosphere is currently going through, the interest of the French for virtual currencies is undeniable. France is even the European Union (EU) country that holds the most cryptocurrencies, according to a study carried out by HelloSafe, a financial product comparison platform. Indeed, 5.9% of French people currently hold cryptocurrencies, i.e. nearly four million people. They are ahead of the Germans (3.5 million) and the Italians (1.4 million).
Last year, a study conducted by KPMG for Adan, the association representing professionals in the digital asset and blockchain technology sector in France, had already highlighted the French people’s enthusiasm for cryptocurrencies. According to this study, nearly one of them had already invested in the sector, with a clear preference for bitcoin (49%), ahead of ether (29%) and bitcoin cash (28%). However, it emerged from this analysis that 48% of French people refrain from investing in cryptocurrencies due to insufficient knowledge of how they work, while 30% believe that these assets are too risky, and 20% say they do not have any savings that can be mobilized to take the plunge.
420 Million Cryptocurrency Holders Worldwide
Nevertheless, in recent years, the attractiveness of the French for the sector has increased, with a proportion of cryptocurrency holders in the French population which has increased from 3.3% to 5.9% between 2021 and 2023. This progression is reflected in the arrival of 1.8 million new cryptocurrency holders in the space of two years in France.
With 5.9% of its population having now invested in these virtual currencies, such as bitcoin, France ranks 14th in the world in this area, far from the top three made up of the United Arab Emirates (27.7%), Vietnam (26%) and the United States (13.2%), according to figures compiled by HelloSafe. At the continental level, North America is doing well with the highest rate of cryptocurrency ownership among its population (8.9%), it is in Asia that there are the most cryptocurrency holders. (260 million) among the 420 million listed on the planet, or 5.9% of the world’s population. Europe has only 31 million cryptocurrency holders, or 4.1% of the population of the Old Continent.
