Stock market: Asia closes weak, waiting for signals from the Fed
Asian stock markets close weak, orphaned by Chinese stock markets closed for holidays.
The markets, after the initial euphoria for the agreement in the USA which avoided the shutdown and the positive signals from the quarterly report of the Bank of Japan (Boj), have taken the path of prudence in view of the intervention of the president of the Fed, Jerome Powell, who could provide guidance on monetary policy.
Tokyo down (-0.3%).
On the exchange rate front, the yen is stable against the dollar at a level of 149.60, and trades against the euro just above 158. Seoul has made little move (+0.09%) while Mumbai rises (+0.5%).
On the macroeconomic front, the manufacturing PMI indices for the Eurozone, Italy, Spain, France, Germany and the United Kingdom are arriving. Also forecast are the Italian and European unemployment rates and English house prices. The indicators on manufacturing (PMI and ISM index) and construction spending are expected from the United States.
