Storm Frederico arrives in France: here’s what to expect in Bas-Rhin

A new depression, named Frederico, arrives in France this Thursday, November 16, 2023. Christophe Mertz, meteorologist for Atmo-Risk, explains what to expect in Bas-Rhin and particularly in Strasbourg.

Gusts of 60, even 70 km/h locally
“The storm will largely spare the Bas-Rhin, where there will be no big gusts,” indicates Christophe Mertz.

The depression should move further south of Alsace, onto the Haut-Rhin, which will certainly experience strong winds in the evening. On the Bas-Rhin side, there could be “gusts of 60, even 70 km/h towards Sélestat and the Champ du Feu, on the Bas-Rhin Vosges”, specifies the specialist.

Heavy rain in the evening
“Very heavy rain is expected across the Bas-Rhin, with 20 to 40 mm expected in the evening and night today. More locally, in the south of Bas-Rhin, between 40 and 60 mm of rain are expected,” explains Christophe Mertz.

The precipitation, which has already started in Strasbourg, is expected to last until tomorrow morning. “With all this rain, the rivers should rise again with possible floods by tomorrow morning,” indicates the meteorologist.
